How does your garden grow?

I don’t know about your garden, but ours is thriving in sticky red clay, surviving afternoon thunderstorms and the weeds are giving the plants a run for their money.
But it is so exciting to watch it all happen!
Our freshly dug “small” garden. Yes, in all our book reading/research we thought a 20’x40′ garden would be small. It looks bigger in real life.
Thank goodness for Alan and crew. It took them about six hours to do this – I don’t know how Courtney and I would have ever got it done.
After a few weeks of admiring the red dirt, we finally got some seeds into it. Here we’ve made it through:
  • 2 rows of corn
  • 1 row watermelon and cantaloupe
  • 1 row of cherry tomatoes, regular tomatoes and mini sweet peppers
  • 1 row of green beans and sugar snap peas

The next week we would add:
  • 3 rows of carrots
  • 2 rows of cucumbers
  • Lots and lots of lettuce mix
  • Lavender, rosemary and basil

Oh, and a pineapple.

Courtney stuck it into the ground and convinced the kids that it had sprouted up overnight. We left it there. Wonder what will happen with it.

A close-up look at the green beans growing:

The corn is growing even faster!
This is today’s view (the beans’ poles blew down in a thunderstorm … they’ll be up, oh, maybe by next week …)

It will be fun when I’m actually pulling out food from the garden instead of weeds.
